The Lions were originally scheduled to play Hawthorn this week but will instead travel to the Gold Coast for the second Q-Clash of the season.
Brisbane annihilated the Suns by 73 points when they met back in April, but things have certainly taken a different turn in recent weeks to suggest the rematch might be a little closer.
A month ago, the Lions looked like the team to beat, but back-to-back double-digit losses to St Kilda and Richmond has cast some doubt over Chris Fagan’s side.
Last week’s loss to the Tigers largely boiled down to Brisbane’s back-line struggling to contain 300-gamer Jack Riewoldt, while the absence of Eric Hipwood was also felt up forward.
Fortunately, this does look a nice game for the Lions to get back on track against a team they’ve typically beat up on in recent times.
The Lions have won five straight over the Suns dating back to 2018 and have also proven a very profitable play at the line covering in four of their five games as the home favourite.
Brisbane should win this game, but you could also build a case for the Suns following a fairly encouraging month of footy.
Gold Coast suffered an honourable loss to the Dogs last week by only 11 points, snapping a two-game winning streak that featured victories over GWS and Richmond.
If Ben King and Ben Ainsworth are on, the Suns are a much better chance than the current line suggests, especially with Lachie Neale potentially missing due to a shoulder injury.
