DEONTAY WILDER (USA) (40-0)
PREVIOUS FIGHT: vs Luis Ortez (CUBA) TKO
STRENGTHS: Huge reach, one punch power, Strong chin
WBC world heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder has come out in the build up to this fight and declared that he has the power to kill a man. The Bronzed Bomber as he is known comes into this fight with plenty of confidence, and not the usual swagger that naturally flows from a boxer but a genuine belief that he is ready to win.
Wilder has the one punch power to knock Fury out which means that his opponent will need plenty of foot speed and a solid defence to keep him out. The one concern that the Wolf has is that Ortiz got the jab going early against Wilder in his last fight and that is a strength of Fury. He must work hard early to prevent him from going to work.
TYSON FURY (UK) (27-0)
PREVIOUS FIGHT: vs Francesco Pianeta (ITL) WIN ON POINTS
STRENGTHS: Jab, Movement, Boxer’s boxer
Tyson Fury’s journey to this fight is incredible. Punters should have a listen to Joe Rogan’s podcast with the man who defeated Wladimir Klitschko to gain an understanding into the depths this man has climbed out of to get to this fight. If the Wolf knows one thing about boxing it is that you should never underestimate a fighter with something to prove. The Gypsy King has dropped a huge amount of weight to be ready for this fight, he is a ‘boxer’s boxer’ with good smarts in the ring and a way of avoiding the kinds of heavy punches that Wilder will need to land to win this fight.
The two fighters are BIG boys, with Wilder 6ft 7 and Fury 6ft 8¾. The Wolf expects Deontay Wilder to win this fight. The defending WBC heavyweight champion has won 6 of his last 7 fights by KO or TKO and is a fighter who is smart enough to turn a fight even when he is behind, like he did against Ortiz. The American fighter only needs a moment to get inside Fury’s defence and it will be all over. The Wolf doesn’t think he will knock Fury out cold, but a TKO is a good option.
