The Saints are a mathematical chance at playing finals, but they might already know their fate by the time they run out on Sunday afternoon.
Sydney, meanwhile, may need to win to secure their top-four spot, which as we’ve seen already this year, is far from a guarantee at Marvel.
The Swans are 1-2 under the roof in Melbourne, losing to the Dogs in Round 3, the Blues in Round 10, before surviving a mild scare against North Melbourne only a fortnight ago.
John Longmire’s side made up for that performance against the Pies last week though, in large part thanks to another three-goal game from Buddy Franklin and a huge effort from Issac Heeney.
After flirting with the eight for most of the season, the Saints have been very mediocre in the run home.
Max King has cooled off massively in front of the sticks, and as a result, the scoring has dried up immensely.
The Saints have struggled to play a full four quarters for most of the season, and although they came to life late against Brisbane last week, it’s hardly a recipe for success against the top-four clubs.
This game might turn out closer than Sydney likes, but the Swans did belt St Kilda by 51 points when they met at the SCG a couple of months ago.
