Uruguay are one of only two teams in the World Cup to have won each of their matches so far in regular time (alongside Belgium). Despite Portugal having 67% of possession and four times more shots (20-5), Uruguay capitalised on their opportunities in front of goal with Edinson Cavani scoring a brace (7th, 62nd minutes) in their 2-1 win.
STAT: France have an excellent record against South American teams, unbeaten in their last nine World Cup matches (won 5, drawn 4). Most impressively they kept a clean sheet in 7 of those games.
This game is likely to follow a similar narrative to the round of 16 with France looking to attack and Uruguay sitting back in defence. Oscar Taberez has them playing wonderful defence and we have already seen in the group stage how frustrated France can get when sides focus solely on defensive pressure.
INJURY WATCH: Edinson Cavani is doubtful to play in this game with a calf injury sustained against Portugal. The PSG striker has reportedly suffered bruising to his left calf but hasn’t torn the muscle. Uruguay, who rely on the two pronged attack of Cavani and Barcelona’s Luis Suarez will struggle to score in his absence. Cristhian Stuani who plays for Girona will take his place.
Tip: France at $1.91
Value BET: France 3-2 at $51.00
