Top eight hopes are on the line again on Friday night in another do-or-die game for the Dogs and Saints.
Only a day after extending Brett Ratten’s contract through to the end of 2024, the Saints coughed up another disheartening 41-point loss to flag fancies Fremantle last week at Marvel.
Likewise, the Dogs were equally full of disappointment in their blowout loss to the Swans.
Luke Beveridge’s side simply failed to turn up on Friday night at the SCG, a performance that featured plenty of wayward kicking and some core defensive breakdowns.
Looking ahead, it’s no surprise to find almost even money on offer between two of the toughest clubs to get a read on all season.
Form wise, the Dogs have played to a steady 7-5 record over the last 12 months following a loss, but the Saints have also gone 6-4 at the line during the same time span.
Statistically, the Bulldogs are a much higher scoring team than St Kilda, but where they’ve come undone for most of the season is down back.
The Dogs rank seventh in the league in average goals allowed, evident in recent weeks after giving up 17 to the Swans, 16 to the Lions, and 16 to a lowly GWS side.
The Saints have had problems scoring themselves, but their defensive outfit has been much more reliable down back.
This game will likely boil down to which team can handle the pressure of a must-win game more effectively, but if the Saints can start on time and rely on Max King kicking a bag, they look a good bet at decent value.
