After suffering a heartbreaking double-overtime loss to Spain in their semi-final last night, Australia are $2.15 at TAB against France ($1.70) in the Third Place Playoff at the 2019 Men’s Basketball World Cup in China tomorrow night at the Wukesong Sport Arena in Beijing (tips off 6pm AEST).
The Boomers were agonisingly close to securing their first medal at either a World Cup or Summer Games if they had of beaten the opponent who denied the Aussies the bronze medal at the 2016 Rio Games in controversial circumstances.
The Boomers led by 11 points at one stage in the third quarter versus the Spaniards, but they were unable to claim victory in a 95-88 double-overtime defeat.
During the second round, the Boomers beat France 100-98, so they can draw confidence from that result in their pursuit of third place at this World Cup.
Spain are $1.55 favourites at TAB to win tomorrow night’s World Cup final against Argentina ($2.45) after they brushed aside France 80-66 last night.
On September 1, one TAB punter placed $650 at $17 on Spain to win the 2019 Men’s Basketball World Cup for a potential $11,050 collect.
Argentina commenced this World Cup as $67 chances to win the tournament and were still $51 before they eliminated Serbia in the quarter-finals and the United States of America were knocked out by France.
