Australia need a win in Sunday’s T20I at the SCG to force a series decider against India on Tuesday.
The tourists carved out an 11-run victory in Canberra on Friday night that was somewhat overshadowed by India’s controversial use of the concussion rules.
Ravi Jadeja scored a crucial 44 not out of just 23 balls in India’s total of 7/161. Dangerous opener KL Rahul top-scored with 51 off 40, while Moises Henriques (3/23) was the pick of the Aussie bowlers. Jadeja – who was also carrying a hamstring injury – was replaced for the second innings, despite finishing India’s batting dig after top-edging a Mitchell Starc delivery onto his helmet.
The player who replaced him, Yuvendra Chahal, was named player of the match after taking 3/25.
D’Arcy Short (34 off 38) and Aaron Finch (35 off 26) made a promising start, but Henriques (30 off 20) was the only other Australian batsman to score more than 12.
Jadeja has been ruled out for the rest of the series.
India have won the last two T20Is against Australia at the SCG. They are Australia’s only two losses in seven T20Is at the venue.
Virat Kohli’s 61 not out steered them to a six-wicket win with two balls to spare in 2018.
India, $2.10 outsiders for game one, have come in to $1.93 to wrap up the series. Skipper Finch shapes as the key for Australia, having scored 35-plus runs in nine of his last 12 T20Is.
