Australian Guineas Free Tips, Bets and Field Preview – 2020

Only eight horses have been confirmed for a start, but this is easily the most highly anticipated Australian Guineas for some time.

Queensland star Alligator Blood will go toe-to-toe with Kiwi raider Catalyst for a second time and if the C.S. Hayes Stakes was any indication, the 2020 Australian Guineas really is going to be one for the ages.

We also simply cannot count out the likes of Dalasan, Chenier and Alabama Express, and you can find my 2020 Australian Guineas tips below.

Australian Guineas – Winner

No. 4 Catalyst– Bet Now: $2.45

He nearly bloody did the Gator a couple of weeks ago and I think that getting out to a mile will be the difference for Catalyst in the Australian Guineas. This horse is a genuine star – he’s launched small-time trainer Clayton Chipperfield into the big leagues and could hardly have been more impressive in his eight career appearances, winning six times and placing last time out. He’s already a Group 1 winner, having taken out the NZ 2000 Guineas with complete ease in November and I think he’ll prove too good here.

Australian Guineas – 2nd

No. 1 Alligator Blood – Bet Now: $3.10

I simply could not be a bigger fan of Alligator Blood and even though I was a coward and stayed out of the CS Hayes a couple of weeks ago, I can’t remember riding a horse home harder. This is the horse that Queensland has been dying for, and it’s a real shame that he was pipped on the line in the Caulfield Guineas in spring, because he would have been seeking to keep alive an unbeaten career record. His win in the Magic Millions Guineas two back was enormous and he is at peak fitness for this race. He’ll go straight to the lead and is as tough as they come.

Australian Guineas – 3rd

No. 3 Alabama Express – Bet Now: $6.50

Alabama Express is stepping back from open company into this three-year-olds feature and I give him a serious chance of spoiling the party. The Redoute’s Choice colt was a handy galloper during his spring campaign, but he has clearly gone to another level this time and won down the straight here at HQ before beating an excellent field in the Group 1 Neds C.F. Orr three weeks ago. He’ll only improve into this race and could prove over the Australian Guineas odds at his current price ($6 at publish).

Australian Guineas – 4th

No. 5 Soul Patch– Bet Now: $26.00

I thought that the resuming run of Soul Patch was full of merit and he’ll enjoy good improvement for the hit-out into this, as well as getting out to the mile. The Ken Keys-trained colt has been an excellent horse for the stable during his short career and won the Group 2 Vase most notably in spring, ending his prep third here in the Derby. He ran on to finish just over three lengths from Alligator Blood and Catalyst in the CS Hayes and will retain the services of Craig Williams.
