Australian Open 2021: Novak Djokovic’s odds crash after muscle tear

After admitting to a likely muscle tear suffered in his third round match, Novak Djokovic is now the $5 third favourite at TAB to win the 2021 Australian Open men’s singles championship.

Djokovic entered Day 5 as the commanding $2.20 favourite to secure his ninth Australian Open men’s title but has now fallen to the third line of betting after battling to defeat Taylor Fritz 7-6 6-4 3-6 4-6 6-2 last night.

Daniil Medvedev – beaten finalist at the 2019 U.S. Open – is now the $3 favourite at TAB to win the first tennis major on the 2021 calendar ahead of Dominic Thiem ($4) who overturned a two-set deficit against Nick Kyrgios at John Cain Arena last night.

The majority of TAB punters would be hoping that Djokovic has extraordinary recuperative powers as 67 percent of the support is on the No.1 seed to claim the men’s championship including one pre-tournament wager of $115,000 at $2.25.

Djokovic is the $1.48 favourite at TAB to defeat Milos Raonic ($2.60) in their fourth round encounter scheduled for tomorrow.
