Bookie opens 2016 Federal Election novelty betting markets

Betting on the federal election is not just about who will win the election, as with online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au there is a whole host of markets to keep punters entertained while waiting on the result.

The bookie is taking bets on nearly everything apart from two flies walking up a wall, from who will vote first, to the turnout and even when the losing leader will concede defeat.

The PM is tipped to get an early edge over Bill Shorten and cast his vote first, priced at $1.80 to Shorten’s $1.90.

Despite this election campaign being classed as somewhat dull, turnout is expected to remain similar to 2013 with 93% to 93.49% the tip at $2.75.

There are some fierce battles around the country in some of the electorates and Cowan is the $11 slight favourite to be the closest result ahead of Hindmarsh ($12).

With so many seats in the balance, any recount is a good $1.50 chance of happening with $2.50 on offer that one count is all it will take around the nation.

The good news is that the public won’t have to stay up too late to discover who will be leading the country from Saturday, with between 10pm and 11pm the favoured timing of the losing leader’s concession speech.

Currently the Coalition are paying $1.08 to win the election with Labor priced at $8.00.

“Malcolm is tipped take the lead and get to the polling booth first and judging from the odds that’s a position he won’t surrender when the results come through,’’ said sportsbet.com.au’s Will Byrne.
