Bookmakers look at the Golden Slipper 2018

The $3.5 million G1 Golden Slipper is finally upon us, and an incredibly even field has been assembled for Rosehill’s greatest race.

With Sydney’s wet weather adding another layer of uncertainty to the contest, we dropped in with Palmerbet CEO, Grant Palmer to get his thoughts on the world’s richest race for juvenile horses.

Where is the early money headed in the Golden Slipper?

Following the all important barrier draw, punters have flocked to unbeaten colt, Written By.

Drawing beautifully in barrier 4, he should set up well in the run and looks a great chance to keep his perfect record in tact.

He is also one of the few runners with wet track experience, winning his debut at Sandown on a heavy surface – something punters have certainly taken note of.

Who is your top pick in the Slipper?

Simply cannot ignore the form of favourite, Sunlight coming into the race. Everything has gone like clockwork for her this preparation, and Tony McEvoy is adamant he’s left plenty in the tank for the grand final.

She comes into the race on the seven-day back up – the same recipe used in her Magic Millions triumph. From her gun draw of barrier 5, she just has to handle the wet to be the winner here.

Who is over the odds in this year’s Slipper?

Another unbeaten colt in, Aylmerton has certainly flown under the radar for mine. He showed a lot of ticker when winning the Todman at big odds, and he’ll appreciate the cut in the ground having won his maiden on a rain-affected track. At $18, he is a must for all your exotics.

Who are you happy to lay?

The win looked enormous to the eye, but Seabrook seems short enough at $9.

There have to be some queries over the quality of field she beat in the G2 Sweet Embrace Stakes, and she is drawn awkwardly in barrier 12. Happy to risk her at the current odds.
