Brisbane Lions vs Essendon Bombers Preview

The Lions have made a few key changes heading into Sunday’s important game at the Gabba.

Daniel Rich and Dayne Zorko have both been ruled out through injury, leaving Chris Fagan with a few decisions to make on Mitch Robinson and Kai Lohmann’s potential inclusions.

The Bombers will likely keep it simple on the back of last week’s upset win over the Swans, a result that basically boiled down to Sydney’s inefficiency in front of goal.

Other than bragging rights against an old rival, Essendon has very little to play for this week. The Lions, on the other hand, are in a serious fight for the second spot on the ladder with a tough run home that features games against Richmond, Carlton, and Melbourne.

The Lions have owned the Bombers for the last few years though, and even without a few of their top stars, they should have no problem piling on the points against a team that ranks fourth in average goals allowed.

Charlie Cameron enjoyed a massive four-goal bag, and likely all three Brownlow votes in last week’s big win over the Dogs, while Joe Daniher won’t be short on motivation against his former club.

The Lions showed last week they still have some improving to do if they hope to hang around in September, but with a chance to sharpen their sword against one of the bottom-feeders, it’s hard to see Brisbane losing this one.
