The Lions have to go about their business the hard way this year after suffering a reality check against the Demons in Adelaide.
Brisbane got away to a competitive start early on but faded in the second term as Clayton Oliver took complete control in another dazzling display.
Chris Fagan already knows his side is capable of bouncing back, but nothing is going to come easy against a Bulldogs team riding the highs of a convincing win over the Bombers last Sunday.
The Doggies lapped up the wet conditions in Tassie to win by 49 points, with most of the damage occurring in the third term thanks to Cody Weightman.
Getting back home to the Gabba is a huge plus for the Lions, particularly when you consider they’ve won their last nine home games following their shock Round 1 loss to the Swans.
Unfortunately, the Lions are down another forward with Dan McStay suffering a gruesome injury in last week’s loss, but they are still deserving favourites in this contest despite losing to the Dogs earlier in April.
For Brisbane to win, they simply need to focus on tightening things up through the midfield after being dominated in the disposal count against Melbourne.
The Lions have plenty to feel good about after keeping the Dees goalless in the third quarter, while Charlie Cameron also looked the best he has all season with five goals next to his name.
The Dogs, though, were once premiership favourites, so they are certainly going to be a tough out.
After losing three straight heading into the finals, Luke Beveridge’s men responded massively with most of their leaders stepping up, but it has to be said that the Dogs benefited greatly from Essendon’s inaccuracy in front of goal.
Either way you look at it, this game should be relatively close, but with a big crowd expected, the Lions are tough to back against.
