A fascinating Conference B match awaits us as the Brisbane Lions hosts Geelong at the Moreton Bay Central Sports Complex this Saturday.
Coming off a 39 point loss to the Dees the previous week, the Lions got some revenge over the Western Bulldogs with a convincing 32 point win in the Grand Final re-match.
The Lions win was the first time a Conference B team has defeated a Conference A team, putting Brisbane on top of the B table and in prime position for another finals campaign.
Lions youngsters played a vital role in Brisbane’s win with McKenzie Dowrick, Jesse Wardlaw, Jacqui Yorston and Nat Grider all getting plenty of the Football.
Brisbane also had six individual goal-kickers between them.
It was a total team performance from the Lions that we’ve come to expect since AFLW started and controlled the play from start to finish.
The Cats were lucky to escape defeat in their low-scoring and highly inaccurate match against Carlton last week.
Geelong was able to dominate for long periods of the game by locking the football in their forward line, putting pressure on Carlton’s defence.
However, had Carlton’s Talya Harris been able to kick straight in the second half of last week’s match, the Cats may not have won.
The addition of Richelle Cranston and Maddy Keryk have proven a vital asset for Geelong with both players getting plenty of the footy.
Brisbane on their day have proven to be a high-scoring and attacking team with a solid defence behind them, Geelong have been lucky to win both of their AFLW games.
Despite this being a “top of the table” clash in conference B – the Lions should be able to easily account for the Cats, who can play well in passages but struggle to get the scores on the board.
