C.F. Orr Stakes Free Tips, Bets and Field Preview – 2020

It’s always a highly anticipated contest simply because it’s the first Group 1 race of the calendar year, but there is no doubt in our minds that the 2020 Neds C.F. Orr Stakes will be the best yet.

Yeah, you read that correctly. Saturday will mark the first ever Group 1 race baring our name and we couldn’t be more excited. It is an absolute bonus that the field is stacked and there’s some great value to be taken around some outstanding horses.

You can find our 2020 Neds C.F. Orr Stakes tips below.

Suggested Bets

C.F. ORR STAKES – WINNER

No. 2 Hey Doc

There is no arguing with how good a horse Hey Doc is and I think he’ll be winning the Neds C.F. Orr Stakes. The six-year-old son of Duporth doesn’t know how to run a bad race and recorded the third Group 1 win of his career when second-up from a spell in the Winterbottom Stakes in summer. There was a lot to like about the way he hit the line in the Australia Stakes first-up from a freshen-up and he’ll only be better for the hit-out and probably also out to 1400m. I concede that Scales Of Justice will be hard to beat, but I’m happy to take the $5.50 on offer for this bloke.

C.F. ORR STAKES – 2ND

No. 3 Scales Of Justice

Boy he was classy when a smart winner of the Australia Stakes first-up from a spell and Scales Of Justice is up to recording a win in the Neds C.F. Orr Stakes. The Not A Single Doubt gelding has a little bit of the ‘Hartnells’ about him, in that he has somehow improved over the shorter trips the older her has gotten. That was on display first-up this campaign, but also in spring when he won the Bletchingly fresh and the Group 1 Memsie at this track and distance third-up. He needs only luck in running to be fighting out the finish again.

C.F ORR STAKES – 3RD

No. 4 Fierce Impact

He’s first-up against a few with a genuine fitness edge, but Fierce Impact is one of, if not my favourite horse and he simply has to go into my Neds C.F. Orr Stakes tips. I’ve been on the Deep Impact entire every time that he has stepped out since arriving in Australia and boy, did that pay dividends in spring when he went to another level, winning both the Toorak Handicap and the Cantala most notably. He also finished a bee’s you-know-what behind Kolding when first-up from a spell, and a repeat of any of those performances would see him tough to beat here. He looks overs at Neds C.F. Orr Stakes odds of $9.

C.F. ORR STAKES – 4TH

No. 1 Avilius

Avilius hasn’t been seen at the races since the Cox Plate and there is no doubt that he’ll improve for whatever he does in this, but I simply cannot look past his class and he is capable of fighting out the finish of the Neds C.F. Orr Stakes. The Pivotal gelding has been a standout for the in-form Godolphin stable for several seasons now and returned several typically pleasing efforts in spring, highlighted by his win in the George Main. I can’t really find a reason why he won’t be in the finish of this.
