The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs couldn’t back up their win in Round 8 with another. They fell to the Raiders 14-4 without really throwing a punch. Meanwhile, the Newcastle Knights looked better in Round 9 but still fell to the Cowboys 36-16 in Townsville.
Trent Barrett has made just one change to his Bulldogs side with Chris Patolo in for Ava Seumanufagai. Adam O’Brien welcomes back Mitch Barnett and Adam Clune for the Knights with Jack Johns out and Phoenix Crossland dropping to the bench.
We’ve got the two worst attacking teams in the NRL kicking off Magic Round. The Knights average only 12 points per game while the Bulldogs just crack double-digits at ten points per game. Kalyn Ponga is doing everything he can to manufacture points and impressed throughout the first half in Round 9. The Bulldogs, on the other hand, have been poor all season. They’re yet to crack 20 points and rarely look like troubling the defensive line. While limited relative to the rest of the competition, the Knights attack is better than the Bulldogs. Ponga is good enough on his own to out-score them. Provided the Knights show the defensive intent they did early last week and get into the grind on Friday night, they can cause what will be considered an upset.
