Canterbury Tips, Race Previews and Selections – 14/7/2021

Wednesday’s metropolitan meeting at Canterbury will feature seven races.

The rail will remain in the true position around the entire course and at publish, we’re faced with track rated in the Heavy (9) range.

Preview brought to you by Ladbrokes. Learn more about Ladbrokes HERE.

Race 1 – 12:50PM – Admire Mars At Arrowfield Handicap, (1250m)

I’m happy to give Construct another chance to win second-up at Canterbury on Wednesday.

Construct was sent around in good races during his debut prep, including a credible seventh placing in the Blue Diamond Stakes, and second behind Shaquero in the Breeders’ Plate.

He resumed this time for a credible third placing at Randwick-Kensington and I like that he has been back to the trials since that effort.

Race 2 – 1:25PM – Astern @ Darley Handicap, (1100m)

Tight Ropes looms as a competitive chance in Race 2.

The Brazen Beau filly has returned some nice efforts in similar races to this one since debuting, and she returned from a break to finish a credible fourth over 1100m at Hawkesbury.

This is harder, but she harbours plenty of improvement, and we can have an each-way play.

Race 3 – 2:00pm – China Horse Club Handicap, (1250m)

Seleque was an eye-catching winner when fresh and can win again at Canterbury on Wednesday.

The Deep Field filly won two from four last prep and picked up where she left off with a comfortable win at Warwick Farm.

She relishes racing with the sting out of the track and I can’t find a reason why she won’t be in the finish.

Race 4 – 2:35pm – Sky Racing Handicap, (1250m)

I thought that there was a lot to like about Grenado’s resuming effort at Warwick Farm, and I’m confident he’ll taking beating in something like this.

The Pierro gelding ran home well to finish fourth, beaten just over a length by Get The Idea in the BM72 race a fortnight ago, and there’s little doubt he’ll take improvement for the hit-out.

Under James McDonald and from the good draw, I’m going to have a decent crack at him.

Race 5 – 3:10pm – Vinery Stud Handicap, (1100m)

He returned a rare flat effort last week, but I like that El Cohete is on the quick back-up, and I think that he can bounce back at a price.

El Cohete’s two efforts prior to last week were impressive and resulted in placings in a couple of decent midweek contests.

He can slot in behind the pace from barrier 9 and with even luck, finish over the top of them.

Race 6 – 3:45pm – Benchmark 72 Handicap, (1900m)

I’m going to have something on Rules Don’t Apply in the penultimate race at Canterbury on Wednesday.

She finished towards the rail of the field in a BM78 race at Rosehill Gardens last time, but charged in to score here at Canterbury two starts back, and she’ll relish the drop back in class this week.

She’s rock-hard fit and James McDonald has options from the rails draw.

Race 7 – 4:20pm – XXXX Handicap, (1550m)

I’m happy to have something on Miss Einstein to bounce back in the last at Canterbury on Wednesday.

The Dundeel mare has been a good horse for the Bjorn Baker stable throughout her career and returned this time for a close-up second behind Expat at Rosehill, before something of a flat effort in another Saturday race last time.

I think she’ll take plenty of improvement into this and enjoy the drop in class.
