Chairman’s Stakes Tips, Odds and Field Preview – 2017

In Melbourne, following the midweek win of Eshtiraak, well-bred filly Formality can add her name to the burgeoning crop of Lindsay Park juveniles when she contests the Chairman’s Stakes (Race 5) over 1000m at Caulfield.

Extreme Choice eased to victory in this race last year in his final lead-up run into the Blue Diamond with Formality hoping to join the likes of Catchy and Tulip as likely stable representatives in the $1.5 million race on February 25.

It really was a formality out at Werribee on debut with the filly able to control proceedings from the front and win by four and half-lengths unchallenged.

She surely won’t have things all of her own way but the stable have been keen to talk up her prospects and at a venue that often favours on-pace runners we are expecting her to figure prominently.

Tony McEvoy’s Aspect upstaged his more fancied stablemate Azazel with a handy win in the Maribyrnong Plate on the final day of the Flemington carnival and will also look to use the Chairman’s as a springboard into the richer two-year-old races.

We’re a little unsure of what to make of his readiness to measure up here and expect the market to tell us plenty come raceday.

The same might be said of the other McEvoy runner, Time Awaits, who was a soft winner on debut at Morphettville while Clinton McDonald’s Spoils has had a quick turnaround since the Fillies Preview on Australia Day and is the only other runner under double figures.

Tips:

  1. Aspect
  2. Formality
  3. Time Awaits
  4. Spoils
