The Pies have opened -17.5 favourites on Saturday hoping to start the season 2-0.
Although there were a few nervous moments, the Craig McRae era at Collingwood got off to a great start with a 17-point win over St Kilda, highlighted by a brilliant debut from Rising Star favourite, Nick Daicos.
The Crows, meanwhile, came away empty handed in what was arguably the game of the round against Fremantle.
In what turned out to be a one-point thriller, the Crows were denied right on the goal line with just seconds remaining, needing a behind to draw the game, or six to win.
Looking ahead, not much is expected of these two clubs, but there is clearly a real sense of belief in both camps.
The battle between Daicos and emerging Crows rookie Josh Rachele will be fascinating to watch, and you only have to look at last year’s clash to know this game will probably be close.
Collingwood won 78-73, their fourth straight win over Adelaide dating back to 2017, but the fact they’ve failed to cover in each of their last 10 games as favourites is a telling stat.
The fact this game is in Melbourne should benefit the Pies greatly, but I can’t get the, anywhere close to -17.5.
Their forward line, led by Brody Mihocek and Jordan deGoey, should prove very tough for the Crows to handle, but the margin is probably a much safer play.
