The Pies and the Dogs follow similar scripts heading into Round 9.
Both sides have lost three of their last five – Collingwood coming off a defeat to Richmond, and the Dogs having fallen short to Port in Adelaide last week.
To add further spice, the Pies and the Bulldogs currently sit 9th and 10th on the ladder respectively, setting up what could be a season-defining game for either side on Friday night.
The Pies have won four of their last five against the Dogs, but they’ll likely have to deal with a well-rested Marcus Bontempelli after the gun forward was given a spell ahead of last week’s road trip.
Bont’s potential inclusion should provide a boost to a Bulldogs forward line that struggled to make the most of their opportunities inside 50 last week, while key ruckman Tim English is also a chance at returning from a hamstring injury.
Both names are a huge problem for Collingwood, particularly after giving up six goals to Tom Lynch last week.
Down the other end, the Pies failed to make the most of their opportunities kicking 12 goals and 14 behinds – a recurring problem for Collingwood with their forward line lacking depth.
Statistically, these two sides are incredibly similar, but given what’s at stake, the Dogs should get home.
