Cronulla gets an early opportunity to avenge its semi-final loss at the hands of South Sydney last September.

The seventh-placed Rabbitohs extinguished the second-placed Sharks’ stellar campaign with a rousing 38-12 victory at Allianz Stadium with Cameron Murray and Latrell Mitchell leading the way.

The rematch has had some sting taken out of it, however, with Dally M Winner Nicho Hynes ruled out. Consequently, the Rabbitohs are $1.50 road favourites.

Souths are getting plenty of support as a premiership hope, despite only finishing seventh in the 2022 minor premiership.

The Sharks have won their last four at their Shire base against the Rabbitohs, who last won there in 2014.

A late-season 2022 clash finished 21-20 in the Sharks’ favour after Hynes slotted a golden point field goal.

Cronulla boasted an elite defence last year, while Souths ranked seventh for points conceded per game.

I’m not convinced that Hynes’ absence is enough to say the Bunnies will run away with this one at a ground the Sharks crafted a 9-2 record at in 2022.
