The hosts and tournament favourites England kick off their World Cup campaign against the South Africans at The Oval. Apart from a few minor injury niggles, the Poms have had a wonderful warm up, including a clean sweep of Pakistan in their five-match series. They should enter the opening game brimming with confidence. With a top six batting order all averaging over 40 (and a strike-rate over 100), the hosts should have too much overall depth and class for the Proteas in the opener.
South Africa will welcome back keeper/bat Quinton De Kock to the top order, but key quicks Dale Steyn and Kagiso Rabada are still recovering from injuries. They should both be nursed in some early matches in this seven week long tournament. Jos Buttler bludgeoned 52 off 31 balls against Australia in a menacing precursor of what he can offer to the English middle order this tournament and The Wolf is very confident he will lead his side to a first up win in their home tournament.
