It’s only early, but there’s a bit to learn from this game on Saturday arvo at the ‘G.
The Bombers were by far the biggest disappointment in Round 1, losing by 66 points to Geelong in a game they never really looked interested in.
There were a few excuses for the Dons with Jake Stringer and Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti on the sideline, but for a club that has top eight aspirations, it felt like the same underwhelming story we’ve seen from the Bombers in recent years.
The Lions will also have a point to prove this week after a flat three quarters against Port Adelaide at the Gabba.
Chris Fagan’s side was outstanding in the fourth quarter, but it was more a case of the Power throwing the game away rather than the Lions flexing their muscle.
Brisbane started the season very slow last year, and it’s fair to say they still have a ways to go if they hope to challenge the likes of Melbourne and the Bulldogs later in the year.
On the plus side, the Lions have owned the Bombers recently, winning both games over the last two years by more than 50 points.
The Joe Daniher vs. his former club storyline will be at the forefront, but if the Lions can avoid the same skill errors that put them behind last week against Port, they should be winning this one, and also placing tremendous pressure on Bombers coach, Ben Rutten.
