Everton are one of just three teams with three wins from as many starts in the 2020-21 season. They have rolled Tottenham (1-0), West Brom (5-2) and Everton (2-1). Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored five goals in the trio of victories, before adding a hat-trick in their 4-1 EFL Cup drubbing of West Ham midweek.
Brighton’s super 3-0 win at Newcastle in Week 2 has been bookended by losses to heavyweights Cheslea (3-1) and Man United (3-2). They should have had a point after grabbing a 95th-minute equaliser against Man U, but they conceded a penalty 10 minutes into stoppage time. Brighton went down to United 3-0 in the EFL Cup four days later.
Brighton have won two of their last three against Everton, including a 3-2 home victory last season. But the Toffees responded with a 1-0 victory at Goodison Park – a venue the Seagulls have never won at.
Both sides are in hot scoring form, but Everton are on too much of a roll.
