Things aren’t about to get any easier for the Saints on the back of last week’s disappointment against the Pies.
To their credit, the Saints did well to fight back and make a game of it in the third quarter, but for a team hunting a spot in the top eight, it was concerning to watch Collingwood walk all over their back line as they pleased.
One of the big positives from that game was the emergence of Jack Hayes, who finished with 18 disposals and three goals on debut – which in turn has created a selection problem for coach Brett Ratten with Rowan Marshall fit to return to the side.
Speaking of returns, the Dockers are set to receive a big one themselves in the form of skipper Nat Fyfe and Sean Darcy.
Freo survived by the barest of margins against the Crows last week, but at home and at full strength, it’s no surprise to find them favoured.
Until the Saints start to play team-first footy, it’s hard to back them with confidence.
They haven’t won against Freo in Perth since 2017, while their lapses in concentration and skill are alarming at times.
