There are a number of superlatives to describe what is no doubt a potential Grand Final preview between first and second on Saturday night.
Simply put, a win for Geelong should see them finish on top of the ladder (unless Port wins big, of course), gifting them the opportunity to host a qualifying final at god knows where.
For Melbourne, it’s even easier: win and the minor premiership belongs to the Dees.
Lose, however, and the Demons could face a tough start to the finals against either the Dogs or Port.
The Cats will head in as the short-priced favourites with home-field advantage, but that really doesn’t mean much against a Melbourne outfit that has lost only one game outside of Victoria all year.
Dees fans can also feel confident knowing they belted the Cats by 25 points at the MCG back in Round 4, while the fact Jack Viney, Tom McDonald and Steven May are all set to return to the side is an obvious plus.
Given their long history of choking, no one would blame you for feeling a little nervous about backing the Dees, but there’s no denying how well they’ve played since losing to the Dogs three weeks ago.
Geelong, on the other hand, has just scraped by against the likes of North and St Kilda during that same time frame, with a slow start against GWS costing them two weeks ago at the Cattery.
This game is sure to go down to the wire, but since they’ve arguably been the best team all season, Melbourne is simply too good to ignore at the current value.
