The Pies can extend their winning streak to six in a row on Saturday at Metricon, but nothing is going to come easy against a Suns team looking to keep in touch with the eight.
Gold Coast fell agonisingly short of a fourth-straight win last week against Port Adelaide, a loss that has left them four points adrift from finals contention.
Statistically speaking, the Suns did plenty right, but the damage was largely done early in the first term as the Power got out to an early three-goal lead.
Speaking of big leads, the Pies nearly squandered a healthy five-goal advantage themselves last Sunday against the Giants.
Craig McRae’s side still prevailed by 11 in the end, but another fourth-quarter lapse won’t fly against a Gold Coast team that has been tough to defend all season.
As the market suggests, there’s a case to be made for either team, but this one should boil right down to which forward line can have the better day.
The Pies showed last week they’re capable of winning without Jordan deGoey, who’s inclusion in the side is far from a guarantee after taking last week off due to off-field issues.
If deGoey does sit, the Suns probably have an advantage up forward, but recent injuries to Izak Rankine, Nick Holman, and Alex Davies only complicate matters.
The Pies have owned the Suns for the last few years, particularly at Metricon where they’ve won their last three in a row.
Collingwood’s strong group of supporters should be in full voice, and after last week’s late scare, expect a big response.
