The Suns saw a line ruled through their finals chances last week with a loss to the Lions, but there were plenty of positives to take away and build upon heading into next year.
Stuart Dew’s side led by seven points at three-quarter time, only to fall apart defensively by allowing the Lions to kick five goals in a forgettable final term.
Star forward Levi Casboult and Brownlow vote-getter Touk Miller were enormous, and it wouldn’t be surprising if the pair put up similar numbers this week against a West Coast team that just gave up five goals to St Kilda’s Dan Butler.
To their credit, the Eagles have been showing some fight over the last month, at least on the scoreboard.
West Coast pushed Richmond to the brink a month ago and showed plenty of life in the final term a fortnight ago against Hawthorn.
Still, a road trip to the Gold Coast doesn’t bode well for a team that is basically counting down the days.
On paper, the Suns are averaging nearly seven more scoring shots a game, not to mention 15 more inside 50s compared to the Eagles.
Overall, neither side seems capable of playing a full four quarters, but since the last four games between these two sides have been decided by 1-39 points, the Suns should return to the winner’s circle.
