Golden Mile Free Tips, Bets and Field Preview – 2020

It’s obviously not Saturday’s most highly billed feature, but the 2020 Golden Mile has drawn an outstanding field to Bendigo and an exception betting race awaits.

A couple of Group 1 winners have been confirmed for a start, along with several other quality Autumn Carnival prospects and when Golden Mile betting markets went up on Wednesday, we were faced with a little under $5 the field.

Golden Mile – Winner

No. 15 Princess Jenni – Bet Now: $4.20

Princess Jenni is one of the aforementioned Group 1 winners confirmed for a start in the Golden Mile and she will take a power of beating. The High Chaparral mare capped an excellent three-year-old season with her impressive win in the Australasian Oaks and continued to impress through a spring campaign that was highlighted by a win in the Group 2 Stocks Stakes. She’s stripped fitter for two competitive efforts in black type company this time and it really does just look the perfect race for her.

Golden Mile – 2nd

No. 4 So Si Bon – Bet Now: $5.50

He’s one of the country’s most famous non-winners but typically, he steps out in harder races than the Golden Mile and it wouldn’t be surprising to see So Si Bon in the finish on Saturday. The So You Think gelding ran a good eighth in the Neds CF Orr Stakes when resuming before finishing within a couple of lengths of subsequent Group 1 winner Fifty Stars in the Blamey Stakes. He again finished off well for sixth in the All-Star Mile last time out and looks to be at peak fitness for this race, which is obviously also a decent drop in class for him.

Golden Mile – 3rd

No. 7 Gold Fields – Bet Now: $16.00

Gold Fields has been an excellent horse for the Logan McGill yard for several seasons now and he’s up to a top four finish in the Golden Mile 2020. The Churchill Downs gelding found career-best form last time in, culminating in consecutive wins in the Listed Sale Cup and the Group 3 Sandown Stakes. He’s another horse that has enjoyed improvement for two decent efforts in black type company and he will relish the conditions of this race. How fitting it would be to see a horse of his name win the Golden Mile.

Golden Mile – 4th

No. 1 Gailo Chop – Scratched

He’s got topweight and clearly isn’t what he once was, but Gailo Chop proved in spring that he is still more than capable of pulling something out and I’d hate to miss out on some of the $31 about him at publish, should he be ready to go first-up in the Golden Mile. The Deportivo gelding boasts an outstanding CV, rich with Group 1 victories and form around some of the world’s best horses, like Winx. He returned from a lengthy spell last spring and placed in two Group 1 races, including the Underwood Stakes most notably, either performance of which would see him winning this.
