A battle of the birds is set at Marvel on Sunday, and if it turns out anything like their recent meetings, we should be in for a treat.
The Hawks prevailed by three points when they met last April before the Crows enacted revenge with a 19-point win at the Adelaide Oval.
It’s largely been a season to forget for both rebuilding clubs in terms of wins and losses, but there has been plenty to like about both young sides at various stages.
The Hawks fought back well in the second quarter against GWS last week, but like they have most of the year, they fell away in the third term on the way to a disappointing 22-point loss.
Likewise, the Crows had their moments early against reigning premiers Melbourne before a three-goal third quarter to the Dees saw them undone.
Looking ahead, this isn’t the biggest game on the slate, but it might be one of the toughest to pick.
Hawthorn’s aggressive style of play has challenged the best in the competition so far this year, while the Crows have quietly been one of the top teams when it comes to tackling and winning the clearances.
Playing at Marvel has become a slight issue for the Hawks recently, as their recent loss to the Dogs stretched their losing streak to five in a row dating back to Round 1 last year.
The Crows have been a risky bet on the road as well, as we saw a few weeks ago when they lost convincingly to the Suns at Metricon.
All in all, this should be a real arm wrestle between two sides with a point to prove, so it might be worth sitting on the fence.
