Hobart Hurricanes vs Melbourne Stars Tips, Odds and Teams – BBL Big Bash 2018/2019

Forget the prawn cocktail, the BBL Christmas Eve double header is the tastiest entree on the menu this festive season! The Wolf dished up plenty of value for punters over the weekend, selecting the Hurricanes to defeat the Heat at $2.10, D’Arcy Short to score over 27.5 runs at $1.88 and the $5.50 multi for Chris Lynn and D’Arcy Short to hit 1+ sixes each and Jofra Archer to take a couple of wickets. Wrap that one up and put it under the Christmas tree.

Preview:

HOBART HURRICANES (1-0) ($1.80) v MELBOURNE STARS (0-1) ($2.00)

The Hurricanes used an impressive batting performance by D’Arcy Short and a savage bowling display by Jofra Archer to set up an important first up win over the Heat on Saturday night. Short’s 67 included four 4’s and four 6’s from 52 balls and set the Heat a total of 159 to chase. Archer’s 2/23 and Faulkner’s 3/25 which included a couple of wickets to seal the match in the last over are very positive signs that Hobart will be a genuine threat in BBL|08.

Glenn Maxwell to hit over 23.5 runs ($1.88)

Tough start to the BBL season for the Stars who lost to the Sydney Thunder by 15 runs in a rain affected match on Friday night. The Stars batting order simply collapsed with only one batsman finishing the game with more than 11 runs. The Big Show averaged just under 38 runs last BBL season and has the potential to explode. 23.5 runs seems a conservative target for Maxwell to achieve in better conditions.

The Wolf knows that the short run chase of just 8 overs made things tricky so we are prepared to give the Stars and Maxwell a pass and think the Hobart match will be a better reflection of their true skill.

BUILD-A-BET: Short top Hobart bat, Archer top Hobart bowler and Hobart win ($15.00)

The Wolf thinks that the Hurricanes will win this match. This will be their first game playing in front of their home crowd at Blundstone Arena and there are plenty of question marks over the Stars batting. The Wolf knows that D’Arcy Short is a confidence player. He was able to put together multiple big scores last season and has exploded this year in the same fashion. Finally Jofra Archer is bowling with plenty of fire and he will be licking his lips at the thought of another Stars batting collapse.
