A TAB punter is hoping to make a $250,000 profit on the first Tuesday in November after plonking a $10,000 bet at $26 this morning on Surprise Baby to win the Melbourne Cup at Flemington on November 5.
The Paul Preusker-trained gelding was victorious in this year’s 3200-metre Adelaide Cup at Morphettville on March 11 and Surprise Baby will be guaranteed a berth in the race that stops the nation if he wins the Bart Cummings at Flemington tomorrow.
”The $10,000 wager on Surprise Baby is easily the biggest bet TAB has received on the winner of the 2019 Melbourne Cup,” TAB’s Trent Langskaill said.
“On September 25, one TAB customer placed a $4,000 bet at $13 on the current Melbourne Cup favourite Finche, which would result in a potential $48,000 profit.”
Surprise Baby narrowly missed out on securing an automatic spot in the Melbourne Cup field when second to Steel Price in the Andrew Ramsden Stakes at Flemington on May 25.
Surprise Baby resumed on September 7 at Moonee Valley with a fourth-place finish in the Feehan Stakes and is currently the $2.40 favourite at TAB to win tomorrow’s Bart Cummings at Flemington (post time 5:05pm AEST).
Surprise Baby has raced nine times for four wins, one second and one third.
