Illawarra head to Canberra for their second game of the round to face the down and out Taipans. It’s a short turnaround for both teams after a Wednesday and Thursday night draw, but it’s an extremely tough ask for Cairns as they travel over from New Zealand.
Recent history shows these two sides have been less than exciting to watch when they meet. Illawarra have won four straight dating back to 2017, with only one game decided by less than five-points.
The Hawks are looking to build towards next season, and this is the perfect statement game for them to grow in confidence. Illawarra are only 6-6 as the home favourite against the Taipans, however given Cairns’ display last week and the short rest, this road trip just about cancels out any chance of an upset.
