Lord Mayor’s Cup day at Rosehill Tips, Race Previews and Selections – 22/5/2021

There are nine races to look forward to at Rosehill Gardens this Saturday afternoon.

Our full 2021 Lord Mayor’s Cup Day Tips & Preview can be found below.

Race 1 – 11:25AM – Highway Handicap, (1200m)

It’s safe to say he isn’t going to emulate his mother on the race track (More Joyous) but More Sundays has shown he is capable at this level.

The son of Fastnet Rock was beaten less than a length last start in a Highway race and has proven he can handle the sting out of the track.

Hopefully he can start our day on a winning note.

Race 2 – 12:00pm – Rosehill Bowling Club Handicap, (1300m)

Conexy showed a good turn of foot late in the piece at Gosford when resuming two weeks ago and he looks well over the odds to my eye.

He will be fitter for that run and he rises only half a kilo in weight.

Each way play all day.

Race 3 – 12:35pm – Benchmark 72 Handicap, (1500m)

Saint Of Katowice could not have been more impressive in his two starts so far this prep, winning at Swan Hill and Kyneton by a combined 7.25 lengths with relative ease.

This is another step up in class form those two races but the four year old has shown he has plenty of natural speed.

Race 4 – 1:10pm – Benchmark 78 Handicap (1200m)

Snowfire has managed five wins from 11 career race starts and two of those have come first up from a spell.

There is rain predicted for Sydney late in the week which will benefit this gelding with four of his five wins coming on rain effected going.

The double figure odds represents good each way odds.

Race 5 – 1:45pm – Benchmark 78 Handicap (1200m)

Lunar Tramp is a lightly raced six year old mare who has been very consistent throughout her career having won five times and been unplaced just seven from 19 starts.

She finished her last campaign with back to back wins at Canterbury and while she has been well beaten at group level in her first two runs this prep, she has been finishing off her races well.

She will be ready to peak at her third run in and will appreciate the big step down in class.

$34 is very juicy.

Race 6 – 2:25pm – Benchmark 72 Handicap (2000m)

Earlier this prep Daqiansweet Junior put together back to back wins over 2000/2100m at Matamata and Pukekohe by a combined 8.5 lengths.

He was well beaten at Group 2 level last start but he has had the ultimate gear change (gelded) since that run and can improve sharply.

He should have race fitness on his side.

Race 7 – 3:05pm – Listed Lord Mayors Cup (2000m)

Parry Sound finished his last prep by placing in six of his last seven runs and has placed in two of three so far this prep.

He was narrowly beaten in a benchmark 78 last start carrying 62.5kg and drops almost 10kg for this assignment!

Rachel King will steer from barrier three.

Race 8 – 3:45pm – Benchmark 88 Handicap (1500m)

This is a very handy little race toward the end of the card with plenty of talented gallopers lining up.

Ellsberg has been excellent in his two runs so far this prep proving that he is a very talented young colt.

He kick started his campaign with a three length win at Listed level and was beaten just over a length in the Group 3 Hawkesbury Guineas last time out.

Should get a gun run from barrier four with Tim Clark on top and looks the likely winner.

Race 9 – 4:25pm – Benchmark 78 Handicap (1800m)

Let’s finish the day with a boxed trifecta so we end up well in front!
