Mckell Cup Tips, Odds and Field Preview – 2016

Online bookmaker Unibet preview Saturday’s Mckell Cup at Randwick racecourse with the Darren Weir trained Raw Impulse headlining the field and dominating the odds.

Down south, having bypassed last week’s Doomben Cup, Raw Impulse (pictured above) has come up an odds-on favourite for the Mckell Cup (Race 7) over 2400m at Randwick.

The imported stayer couldn’t have been more impressive in his three Australian starts to date with Darren Weir, who incredibly has never trained a winner in Sydney.

Wier noting that this may be his last run for a while with a crack at the Cups on the agenda later in the year.

His main opposition is expected to come from Havana Cooler, who made up ground behind Ecuador in the Lord Mayors Cup and meets that horse 2kgs better at the weights.

Gai Waterhouse’s gelding overcame an indifferent effort in the Hawkesbury Gold Cup to register his first win for a year but his chances weren’t helped by an awkward draw which may force Adam Hyeronimus to burn a bit of petrol early on.

Of the others, Chris Waller will have a strong hand in the race with four runners and of the quartet our form analyst saw some value in Murphy’s Delight.

He’s on the seven-day backup having failed to measure up at Scone but can be taken on his previous win at Randwick.

The horse has never failed to finish out of the places in five previous attempts over this journey.
