Melbourne Demons vs Brisbane Lions Preview

The Lions will be hoping for a repeat of last year’s Qualifying Final on Saturday night when they take on minor premiers Melbourne at the Adelaide Oval.

Brisbane famously defeated Richmond in last year’s Qualifier before suffering a disappointing loss to Geelong in the Prelim, a result that has largely inspired Chris Fagan’s side for the entirety of the season.

The Dees, on the other hand, have Grand Final aspirations of their own after finishing the home and away season on top of the ladder last week with a mesmerizing win over Geelong.

Melbourne fans had to be sick to their stomach with their side trailing by seven goals at half-time, but like we’ve seen all season, the Dees showed the resiliency of a true flag contender by erasing the deficit to win on the siren.

Not to be outdone, the Lions also came up clutch with a 38-point win over West Coast to cement a top-four finish, which similar to last year, has left the Lions as one of the most in-form sides heading into the finals.

In terms of recent history, the Lions will be out to atone for their 22-point loss to the Dees back in Round 12 that saw them blow a healthy lead.

Brisbane led by four goals at half-time, but like we saw last week against Geelong, Melbourne proved too strong in the second half thanks to a big performance from Christian Petracca.

The Lions don’t need it, but you can bet Chris Fagan will use that loss as added motivation during the week – much like he did last year when the Lions got their revenge on Richmond.

Considering Brisbane has gone 4-1 as the away underdog over the last 12 months, there’s a bit to like about the Lions with a little insurance on offer.
