Preview:

After losing their previous three games, the 6-7 Heat kept their tenuous hopes alive with a 71-run demolition of the Stars on Saturday night.

Brisbane’s batting had fallen apart leading into that pivotal victory. They scored 126 or less in their previous three innings. But AB de Villiers (71 off 37), Chris Lynn (34 off 31) and a cameo from Marnus Labuschagne (24* off 13) steered the Heat to 5/186 at the MCG.

Mitchell Swepson (3/31), Mujeeb Ur Rahman (2/11) and James Pattinson (2/17) were superb as the Stars crumbled to 115 all out.

After losing their first nine matches of the season, the ’Gades won their only two games back-to-back – against the Thunder and the Heat.

Cameron Boyce’s brilliant 4/15 with the ball spearheaded Melbourne’s 44-run victory at The Gabba. The Renegades set a target of 165, despite Beau Webster top-scoring with only 36. Sam Heazlett (56 off 37) played a lone hand as the Heat was bowled out for 120.

The Renegades have lost both matches since. Mohammad Nabi’s quick-fire 63 off 30 was not quite enough in a four-run loss to the Hurricanes, while Aaron Finch’s century was in vain in a seven-wicket loss to the Sixers on Saturday.

The Heat – $1.61 favourites ahead of this one – have it all to play for. Both teams’ recent form make the Renegades an enticing $2.33 head-to-head proposition. But the visitors should get the result and a BBL finals berth. After a fairly lean recent run, skipper Chris Lynn must step up.
