Melbourne Stars vs Melbourne Renegades Tips, Odds and Bets – BBL Big Bash 2019

We take a look at the second of the two New Year’s Day BBL Big Bash matches on 1/1/2019 with the game being the Melbourne derby with the Melbourne Stars hosting the Melbourne Renegades. The Stars head the odds slightly but it looks like it may be a flip of the coin market with good support for the Renegades. View our Melbourne Stars vs Melbourne Renegades Tips below.

Odds:

MELBOURNE STARS (1-2) ($1.83) v MELBOURNE RENEGADES (2-1) ($1.98)

Preview:

The Stars cruised to their first of the season on Thursday night, chasing down the Sydney Sixers score of 132 in just under 15 overs to win by 5 wickets. The two keys for the Stars were Peter Handscombe’s excellent batting performance on his return to the squad and Nepalese spinner Sandeep Lamichhane who took a couple of wickets and sits inside the top 3 leading wicket takers in the tournament.

PLAYER ALERT: Punters need to know that Sandeep Lamichhane is gone! That’s right the spinner has left the country to honour commitments with the Sylhet Sixers in the Bangladesh Premier League. English paceman Liam Plunkett will join the squad and is expected to play on Saturday night against the Sydney Thunder.

Fall of Melbourne Stars wicket under 21.5 runs ($1.88)

Ben Dunk is letting the Stars down at the moment. The loss of his early wicket has resulted in the Stars slumping to scores of 1/4 and 1/13 against the Sixers and Thunder respectively. Couple that with the departure of Travis Dean against the Hurricanes at 1/20 and the Stars have lost a wicket before 21.5 runs in every game this season. The Wolf won’t go against that pattern in this game.

Melbourne Stars to win ($1.83)

WHAT TO EXPECT: With Handscombe and Maxwell in the batting line-up, the Stars deservedly go into this derby as the favourite. The Wolf is concerned about the departure of Lamichhane, although the Renegades batting line-up collapsed against the Sixers and the Stars have the bowling attack to make that happen again. We are confident that the Stars will continue their dominance in the Melbourne derby.
