Melbourne’s form is their biggest obstacle. They have won only three of their last eight, with two of their victories coming against the lowly Hawks – including a 95-72 result last Saturday.
Cairns Taipans are locked in for the semis, but they could potentially edge the Wildcats out of second if other results go their way. The 16-10 Taipans are in great touch, winning their last four games. Last weekend they put the 36ers to the sword in Adelaide, winning 99-80.
The Taipans have won four straight against United, including all three encounters this season. They won 93-86 and 90-85 in Cairns during the first half of the season, before snatching a 77-75 victory in Melbourne on Boxing Day.
United are 8-5 at home, winning their last two. The Taipans are just 5-7 on the road but have won their last two. Cairns have also been strong against the line this season, going 15-11. Despite a desperate host team, the Taipans look a sharp underdog option.
