The Patriots will be hoping to build on last week’s close call against the Cowboys when they host the well-rested Jets in the early window.
Another encouraging performance from rookie quarterback Mac Jones nearly saw the Patriots pull off an upset against one of the top teams in the NFC, only for the defence to come undone on CeeDee Lamb’s walk-off overtime touchdown.
The Jets will be looking to follow suit and exploit New England’s sloppy secondary, something they failed to do against the Falcons two weeks ago in their narrow loss in London.
With the Bills losing last week, this is a very important game for both side as far as the AFC East is concerned, but it’s hard to back against the battle-tested Patriots following a couple of close games against the Bucs and Cowboys in recent weeks.
On one hand, the Jets have had time to prepare, but this is still a huge test for rookie Zach Wilson in a hostile road environment.
It’s also hard to ignore the fact the Patriots have covered in six of their last eight games against the Jets, so I’m going to back Jones to get the upper hand in what should be a fascinating quarterback battle between two of this year’s first-round picks.
