Newcastle have their tails up after a 2-0 win at West Ham in Week 1. New signing Callum Wilson opened their account in the 56th minute and Jeff Hendrick scored the late sealer. The Magpies also put away Blackburn Rovers 1-0 in midweek EFL Cup action.
Brighton were looking good when Leandro Trossard’s 54th-minute goal cancelled out Chelsea’s first-half penalty. But the Seagulls found themselves 3-1 down within 12 minutes, which is where the scoreboard finished up. They went on a goalscoring spree in the second half in the League Cup, however, thrashing Portsmouth 4-0.
Newcastle are winless in their last six clashes with Brighton. None of those matches produced more than two goals, with five featuring a total of one or zero. Last season’s two encounters finished in scoreless draws.
