Paul Gallen vs Justis Huni Preview

Another exhibition fight featuring Paul Gallen will take place on Wednesday night but for the first time, he has signed to face a serious opponent.

Sure, Mark Hunt and Lucas Browne would have been a real test ten years ago, but given the lack of preparation that each fighter had put in before their respective bouts with Gal, it was clear that they were both just there for the payday.

Enter Justis Huni, one of Australia’s most exciting prospects in any weight class, and the current holder of the Australian Heavyweight Title.

Here is a bloke who is undefeated through four professional fights, who won his title on debut and who will board the plane to the Tokyo Olympics on the other side of this bout.

Finally, we’ll get to see what Paul Gallen can muster against a real fighter, and if you read onto the preview and tips that I’ve provided below, you’ll find that it could be bleak viewing.

Paul Gallen

Gal’s impressive League career spanned eighteen years and was highlighted by honours at club, state and international level, and he was quite clearly one of the NRL’s hard men throughout his tenure.

He looked an obvious candidate to transition into boxing, and taking absolutely nothing away from him, he has looked very competitive and well-drilled in each of his twelve professional fights to date.

His last two fights against previously good combat sports operators appeared to pose something of a hurdle for him, but there is no doubt that Wednesday night’s bout is an enormous rise in class for Gal, and he will need to go to a new level to even compete.

Justis Huni

Justis Huni put Australian and indeed world boxing on notice when he made his professional debut in October last year, and stopped then-Australian Heavyweight champion Faiga Opelu with a seventh-round TKO.

From that moment onwards, the frightening twenty-two-year-old has continued to go from strength to strength.

He subsequently beat Arsene Fosso and Jack Maris by TKO, and he enters this fight off the back of a unanimous points decision of Christian Tsoye.

Given that Huni has a reputation to build, an Olympic Games to prepare for and an opportunity to also win the vacant IBF Pan Pacific Heavyweight title, this looks to be an open and shut case to me.

Gallen vs Huni Tips

While there is an obvious class difference between these two fighters and I’m confident that Huni will just win, there is absolutely no arguing with Gallen’s toughness, and he is obviously yet to be knocked out in a professional fight.

Barring a couple of shots thrown off by Mark Hunt, Gallen has never really looked troubled and if you’re confident he can pull off yet another win, the $5.75 available for that result is worthy of consideration.

The Neds bookies also have you covered if you’re a Gallen supporter, and they have put up a Player Pump of Gallen to Win OR for the fight to go the distance for odds of $2.75 (Max bet $50).

I simply cannot look past the fact that Huni is an up-and-coming talent, with plenty on the line, and with a lot more to gain by winning this fight. I have no doubt that he’ll be on the world stage within a couple of years, and he can send another big message by winning this fight by knockout.

The fight is scheduled for ten rounds of three minutes, and after wearing down his opponent in the first half, I believe that Huni will look to close it out before we can go to the judge’s scorecards.

Given that there is only $1.40 available for Huni to win by way of knockout, I’m instead going to dive into Rounds betting to attempt to extract the value.

Tips:

Back Justis Huni to win in Round 6 at $8.50
Back Justis Huni to win in Round 7 at $8.50
Back Justis Huni to win in Round 8 at $10
