Perth Scorchers are desperate to record their first BBL|10 win, but they’ll have to do it in the 2-2 Adelaide Strikers’ backyard.
Seven-wicket losses to the Renegades and Thunder bookended the Scorchers’ rained-off encounter with the Stars.
Impressive knocks from Colin Munro (49 off 36) against the Stars and Mitch Marsh (52* off 41) against the Thunder provide encouraging signs for an overall underperforming batting line-up. The likes of opener Josh Inglis – out for single figures in all three innings so far – have struggled.
Crucially, big-hitting English imports Liam Livingstone and Jason Roy have completed quarantine and are available for tonight’s showdown.
The Strikers bounced back from their 38-run loss to the Sixers with a nerve-wracking two-run victory over the Heat last Wednesday. Daniel Worrall and Jake Weatherald produced big unbeaten innings in Adelaide’s first two matches, and Alex Carey and Matt Renshaw have had their moments. But no Strikers batsmen made it out of the 30s in their last two outings.
The Strikers won both clashes with the Scorchers last season. Weatherald’s 83 off 47 was enough for Adelaide to hold off a Livingstone-inspired (69 off 26) Perth by 15 runs at Adelaide Oval.
Livingstone’s (79 off 54) efforts were again in vain as the Scorchers went down by 16 runs at Optus Stadium. Phil Salt (59 off 31) and Wes Agar (3/36) starred for the victorious Strikers.
The winless Scorchers head in as $1.71 favourites. Weatherald shapes as a key in the $2.15 underdog Strikers’ quest for a third victory of the BBL season.
