Season-ending injuries to Andrew McCullough and Connor Watson cruelled Newcastle in last Sunday’s 18-12 loss to Canterbury and has resulted in significant wagers at TAB on the Knights to miss the finals.
Before their loss to the Bulldogs, the Knights were $8.50 to miss the top eight at the end of the 2020 home-and-away season and are now $2.70 after bets of $10,000 at $4 and $16,000 at $3.50 were placed two days ago.
Newcastle has drifted from $1.05 to $1.40 at TAB to contest this year’s finals since the defeat to Canterbury at McDonald Jones Stadium.
The Knights are $4.30 outsiders to end Melbourne’s five-game winning streak with the Storm $1.22 favourites in their encounter at Sunshine Coast Stadium on Sunday.
