Randwick Tips, Race Previews and Selections – 17/7/2021

A big 10 race meeting will take place at Royal Randwick this Saturday afternoon with plenty of opportunities to make some cash.

Our full Randwick Tips & Preview – Saturday, 17th July can be found below.

Preview brought to you by Ladbrokes. Learn more about Ladbrokes HERE.

Race 1 – 11:05AM – 2YO Handicap, (1400m) – No. 1 Rivivalist

Rivivalist was beaten just over a length and a half when resuming this prep at Hawkesbury.

The Peter and Paul trained colt then came out and won impressively at Newcastle last start by just under a length with third place a further 3.3 lengths away.

Tommy Berry will steer from barrier six.

Race 2 – 11:40AM – Highway handicap, (1200m) – No. 10 Lady River

Lady River put together two impressive wins before tackling a very similar race to this one last time out.

The daughter of Headwater finished just over half a length behind Hellenism in that race who I have a high opinion of.

Making the step up to 1200m should suit and she represents good value at $5.50

Race 3 – 12:15pm – Benchmark 72 Handicap, (1200m) – No. 10 Fortune Seeker

Fortune Seeker won her first three race starts and has been unplaced once in five career starts.

She will take plenty of improvement out of her first up third at Warwick Farm on the heavy track and should get a nice run in transit from barrier two with Tim Clark in the saddle.

Race 4 – 12:50pm – Benchmark 78 Handicap, (1800m) – No. 2 Criminal Code

This is the level for Criminal Code who is over the odds at around the $9.00 mark in the fourth race of the day at Randwick.

He will be much better on top of the ground than he was last start at Rosehill and he will be fitter for the two runs so far this prep.

Jumping from barrier three, James McDonald steering and the step up in distance are all positives.

Race 5 – 1:25pm – Benchmark 78 Handicap, (1600m) – No. 8 Cafe Royal

Cafe Royal was well beaten by Expat in a very similar race to this one when stepping out last time and gets in well at the weights for this assignment.

The four year old mare has been excellent in all five runs this prep and if she can hold that form she will go close here at nice each way odds.

Race 6 – 2:00pm – Benchmark 72 Handicap, (1200m) – No. 4 Henschel

Henschel has managed six wins from 19 career starts including his last start at Kembla Grange by 2.5 lengths.

The four year old gelding was a winner of a similar grade of race by three lengths back in April and he can measure up at this level of racing in my opinion.

Race 7 – 2:40pm – Benchmark 88 Handicap, (1800m) – No. 7 Great House

This is quite a good little race with plenty of in form horses but Great House looks a standout at the $3.00 currently available.

He chased home gamely behind Brutality last start at Rosehill but he should take plenty of benefit from that run.

Tommy Berry steers from barrier three.

Race 8 – 3:20pm – Benchmark 88 Handicap, (1400m) – No. 5 Surf Dancer

Surf Dancer makes his Australian racing debut in this event and there is no denying that he has some ability.

He won a Listed race at York by almost three lengths this time last year and while I usually like to see these imports have at least one run before backing them, it is hard to ignore his trials leading into this assignment.

He has been gelding since the last time we saw him at the races and if he parades well, and there is any support in betting, double down.

Race 9 – 4:00pm – Benchmark 78 Handicap, (1400m) – No. 13 Eight Diamonds

The Hawkes trained Eight Diamonds is a filly with a huge amount of upside and she is really well placed in this particular race.

She is being asked to take on the older mares in this event but she was ultra impressive when scoring by two lengths last start at Canterbury.

She clearly handles the rain effected track but she will be even better on top of the ground in my opinion and with only 55.5kg on her back, she represents good value.

Race 10 – 4:35pm – Benchmark 78 Handicap, (1000m) – Boxed Trifecta 1/3/4/5

Let’s box them up in the last and see if we can finish on a winning note!
