Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes Day at Caulfield Tips, Race Previews and Selections – 18/9/2021

We have a truly excellent card of racing taking place at Caulfield on Saturday with plenty of black type racing taking place.

The Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes is the feature race on the card but there is plenty of opportunities to fill up the account.

Our full 2021 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes Day Preview can be found below.

Preview brought to you by Ladbrokes. Learn more about Ladbrokes HERE.

Race 1 – 12:30PM – Benchmark 78 Handicap, (1200m)

The Gauch has been a very consistent performer through his short racing career having won four times in nine starts and unplaced just twice.

The lightly raced five year old gelding was beaten less than a length when resuming over 1100m at this track and he can kick start our day on a winning note.

Race 2 – 1:05PM – Open Handicap, (1100m)

Nothing went to plan for Athiri during her winter campaign in Brisbane and she was well beaten in all three of her starts.

She is a very classy mare however and she has drawn to get a nice run in transit for this first up assignment in a very winnable race for her.

Race 3 – 1:40pm – Group 2 Off The Track Prelude, (1400m)

Heresy looks the best filly in this race but I do not want to take the short quote about her.

Devout Hero is a filly with a lot of upside and she showed a lot of heart when nothing went right for her at Sandown last start.

I love the fact that she has already had a run over 1400m this prep and although this is a big step up in class, she represents good each way value in the Thousand Guineas Prelude.

Race 4 – 2:15pm – Group 3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude, (1400m)

Both of Lightsaber’s runs this prep have been full of merit especially his fast finishing fourth behind Bruckner in the McNeil last start at this track.

The Peter Moody trained colt will be fitter for the run and will appreciate the step up in distance at this stage of his prep in the Caulfield Guineas Prelude.

Race 5 – 2:55pm – Pinchapoo Plate, (1000m)

General Beau is a proven performer at this level and he comes into this race with two starts under the belt so far this prep.

He will bring in a fitness edge over a few of these runners and he seems to love racing here at Caulfield.

Race 6 – 3:35pm – Benchmark 90 Handicap, (1400m)

Annavisto ran into a very progressive horse in Turaath first up who has since gone on to win the Group 2 Lets Elope since that start.

The four year old mare has won four times from just nine career starts and has performed well here at Caulfield in the past.

John Allen will steer from barrier five.

Race 7 – 4:15pm – Group 3 MRC Foundation Cup, (2000m)

Angel Of Truth looks ready to break through for a much deserved win after two really nice efforts leading into this Group 3 event.

A second in the P.B Lawrence over an unsuitable distance was following by a fast finished fifth in the Heatherlie where the leaders were off and gone heading around the turn here at Caulfield.

Chapada finished 10th when resuming at The Valley but was just 2.6 lengths off the winner in the Feehan.

He finished third when second up last prep in the Group 1 Australian Cup, only beaten a length behind Homesman.

Race 8 – 4:50pm – Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes, (1400m)

Probabeel had a mountain of work to do when rounding the turn here at Caulfield in the Cockram Stakes but she knuckled down to the task late to score well.

She will only improve on that effort with fitness and the step up in distance suits.

Sierra Sue was excellent when winning the P.B Lawrence two starts back and she had absolutely no luck in the straight at The Valley last start.

She represents good value at the double figure odds available.

Race 9 – 5:25pm – Group 3 How Now Stakes, (1200m)

La Mexicana has been somewhat disappointing so far this prep in two runs but she is a high class mare with plenty of natural speed ahead of the How Now Stakes.

I like the fact that her runs have been spaced out, keeping her nice a fresh for this assignment and she represents good each way value in the last of the day.
