St Kilda Saints vs Fremantle Dockers Preview

There won’t be any love lost on Saturday night between the Saints and Dockers at Marvel.

St Kilda prevailed by 10 points when these two sides met back in Round 2, a game that saw Jack Higgins kick four goals alongside a handy 30 touches from Brad Hill.

Plenty has changed since then though, particularly on the defensive front at Fremantle.

Not long after, the Dockers became one of the toughest sides to move the ball against inside 50, but their defensive efforts have fallen off recent weeks – highlighted by a loss to Carlton, and a very close call against Port at home last Sunday.

The Saints are also a guessing game, particularly in front of goal.

St Kilda kicked themselves out of the contest against the Swans two weeks ago, but their improved accuracy and pressure was the deciding factor in last week’s win over the Blues.

Defensively, St Kilda has been one of the easiest teams to score against in the competition, while they’ve also struggled mightily around the clearances.

On the flip side, those are two areas the Dockers have gotten right for most of the season, but they do have big concerns up forward now with Matt Taberner likely ruled out with a hamstring injury.

The fact Higgins kicked four on Freo last time they played is telling, and although it’s hard to trust St Kilda’s recent “turnaround”, the Saints do look a slightly safer bet at home.
