Ciaron Maher’s Azkadellia (pictured above) tops the betting and while we have already seen plenty of interest in the mare we’re happy to accommodate punters wanting to back her.
Maher, who won this race with Srikandi last year, has even touted the prospect of taking her to the States to compete in the Breeder’s Cup series later this year.
Azkadellia landed perfectly in gate five at the barrier draw and while it’s hard to fault much of what she’s done we think she’s under the odds in a field with plenty of depth.
With the “Magic Man” Joao Moreira making the trip out from Hong Kong to compete with Australia’s best, we’re also expecting his mount Counterattack to figure prominently.
Chris Waller’s colt surged to victory in the Fred Best Classic and with only 52.5kgs on his back we consider him a real lightweight chance if he can find some cover.
Of the others, Under the Louvre finished off strongly behind Black Heart Bart in the Goodwood, is ultra-consistent but hasn’t won for a while.
Malaguerra (pictured above) copped a weight penalty for his win in the BTC Cup and is one we’re keen to take on while the lack of an extra lead-in run makes the task more challenging for Kaepernick and we will also be looking to lay him.
