Sydney Swans vs Greater Western Sydney Giants Preview

A trip to the Semi’s and a whole heap of bragging rights are on the line this Saturday in the rubber match between the Swans and the Giants.

This season’s ‘Battle of the Bridge’ score is all even at one win apiece, but that hasn’t stopped the bookies from favouring the Swans by just over a goal in line betting.

Sydney comes into this game riding a two-game winning streak following a couple of comfortable victories over the Swans and North Melbourne, and they’ll certainly fancy themselves a chance at making it a third after beating their rivals by 26 points last month.

The Swans have looked a genuine finals contender ever since they knocked off the Lions and Richmond in the first three weeks of the season, but it’s fair to say GWS’ recent form reads even better with three consecutive wins over Geelong, Richmond and Carlton.

As far as ‘dark horses’ go, the Giants are arguably the most dangerous team heading into the finals, largely due to their defensive efforts in recent weeks.

Leon Cameron’s side held both the Cats and the Tigers to under 70 points to start the month, while there was a lot to like about GWS’ response to a gallant Blues outfit last week.

The Giants found themselves trailing at half-time before dialing up some pressure and winning the clearances, two areas that will go a long way towards determining the outcome of Saturday’s game.

In terms of experience, the Giants also have the upper hand in this matchup after playing finals in each of the last four years, which should help them enormously with the rest of the finals to be played on neutral turf.

While the Swans have a number of experienced names, it’s worth noting the Giants have covered the line in six of their last nine games as the away underdog.

This game will largely boil down to which forward line can be the most efficient, and after managing 29 shots on goal last week, the Giants look a bet to win that battle.
