Richie Porte has had plenty of chances without ever making an impact at the Tour de France and many punters have clearly given up on him.
There is no doubt that Porte has been frustrating to follow in recent seasons and his form this year hasn’t been overly impressive, but on his day he remains one of the strongest climbers in the peloton.
This course that is packed full of aggressive mountain climbs is ideal for Porte and his team Trek-Segafredo have confirmed that all their Tour aspirations will be built around the Australian.
He will be supported by the likes of Bauke Molleme and Giulio Ciccone and it is fair to say that they are riding in career best form.
There is no doubt that Porte will need luck and he hasn’t had that in the past at the Tour de France, but at $17 I am willing to have a gamble.
